Welcome to LOMAH (Land of Milk and Honey) Retrievers. We chose this name because of all it represents, both literally and figuratively. On the literal side, we have twelve wonderful English Cream Retrievers who represent “milk” and “honey”, based on coloring. Our foundation Dam, Sasha Bear, is now retired. Sasha’s ancestry is from Russia, Spain and France. She is a gorgeous light honey-colored girl with perfect feathering and an exceptionally calm temperament. She is sweet and loyal, and would rather be with her human companions than doing pretty much anything else. Odin, one of our sires, is the “milk” half of the equation. His ancestry is from the Netherlands. He is blocky, with a big black nose and a permanent smile on his face. He lives off-site with our daughter and her family, and is happiest when he can be chasing sticks in the yard. He is full of energy, and is truly a happy guy! We have four other males, Hondo, Prince, and Olaf, who live with us, and Caesar, who lives with our cousin's family in a nearby town. We have six more females Daffodil, Misty, and Maisie, Star, Liberty, and Snowy (although Snowy is a companion and not part of the breeding program). These twelve dogs are what makes our "Golden Family".
Figuratively, “Land of Milk and Honey” is a metaphor for “all good things.” The generally accepted definitions of this phrase are “The Promised Land”, “a land of unusual fertility and abundance”, and “the blessings of heaven.” We feel truly blessed to have our beautiful, loving English Cream Golden Retrievers as part of our family. Our “promised land” is an old elementary school that sits on a couple of acres in a small town in east central Illinois. We are living a life of “all good things”, and that is largely due to the absolute joy we feel each morning as we are greeted by our wonderful furry family members. This includes not only our English Creams, but also our Feist, Banjo, as well as our cat, Mischief (who earned her name).
